For: Great focal range for scenic views, Razor sharp at F2.8, Gorgeous IQ, Lightning fast focus, Huge and sturdy lense hood
Against: Heavy, Not cheap
Canon 24-70mm F2 USM L

It's also a great freedom to be able to zoom in and out with your hand and not your feet ;)
This lens is perfect for scenery and as a walkaround lense when you want to snap anything and everything. This isn't to say it's not a good portrait lens - it is. It will take amazing portraits which are very sharp - sometimes too much so!
The image quality on this lens is phenomenal, the colours and image quality often look better when downloaded than they did when you were looking at the scene you were about to photograph!
The clarity and detail on it is borderlining macro (which for a non dedicated macro lens is really nice!) I really can't say enough good things about the image quality.
At 70mm F2.8 you dont lose any of the sharpness and you gain a really gorgeous bokeh. My gripes about the weight of this lens were soon forgotten when I saw the downloaded images (and this was before they'd been dragged into photoshop !)
The lense hood is a really nice addition. It's large, well made and keeps out everything when the lens is hidden and almost everything when the lens is fully extended - which is where I point out depending on your focal length, the front of the lense moves forward and backwards accordingly !
For indoor use this lens really shines - especially for group photos! Even in smaller rooms when pulled back to 24mm you're going to lots of and in many cases too much room to work with.
So to wrap things up, if you're into walking around and taking photographs of landscapes or portrait photography in small environments this lens more than fits the bill.
